There is Vladimir Vysotsky’s poem “In Asia, or perhaps in Europe...” (1969), which has much in common with this song.
Because of the loss of faith in Gog and, as a result, fighting with Nature for improvement of conditions of this transitory life — what has spilled over into thoughtless destroying the forests and poisoning the earth, water and air — man has gotten the spiritual emptiness, feeling the senseless of life.
