The Orphan.

Written by Sergey Yesenin.

Masha has a harsh stepmother,
She’s taken her fine gown away.
Masha lacks for chance to smarten up,
And no lad gives her his gaze.

An old sarafan is what she’s
Forced to wear the whole year.
Her stepsister wears what wants she,
And sapphires sparkle in her ears.

Thou stood’st near to the entrance,
While a raging storm there was...
How it’s sad that I wasn’t able to
Freeze thy sore tears into pearls!
