Poems and Songs of Vladimir Vysotsky. A Ballad of Time.

Commentary to the poem “The clock is ticking quietly...”

This poem calls to mind the words of the surah “The Spider” (ayah 64): “And this life of the world is only an amusement and a play! Verily, the home of the Hereafter — that is the life indeed, if they but knew.”

The quotes from the Holy Qur’an given in this publication are taken from Abdullah Yusuf Ali’s translation, Muhammad Taqi-ud-Deen al-Hilali and Muhammad Muhsin Khan’s translation (the modern English language is turned into the traditional one) and Tafseer Ibn Kathir.

The presented text is taken from the poem “I’m mixing but with silence...” (1980).
