Commentary to the song “For lots of lucky years...”

This song calls to mind the words from Vladimir Vysotsky’s song “A Lecture on the International Situation”:

For years, I’ve forced a closed door as a stubb’rn ram — ’Stead of to set off for Tehran with the Qur’an!

And it is pertinent to give here Lucius Annaeus Seneca’s words: “Ebrietas est voluntaria insania.” (“Drunkenness is nothing but voluntary madness.”)
