The hillmen mean the Muslims, and the coming of the believers’ defender was promised by the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him.

There is a good book about the hillmen, it is Rasul Gamzatov’s “My Dagestan” (this book is in Russian).

The song was written in 1978.
