Poems and Songs of Vladimir Vysotsky. The Criminal Code.

Commentary to the song “The Card-Sharpers”.

This song narrates about our “guests” in the East — the United States and “Israel”, and the words of the refrain “the four suits” mean the four major religions.

A part of the song was used in the film “The War under the Rooftops” (1967).

The presented text is adapted from Vyacheslav Chistyakov’s translation.
