Commentary to “A WEDDING SONG”.

The first, second, third, fourth, fifth and seventh songs, also written in 1974, are “Sko­mo­rokhs at the Fair”, “Nightingale the Robber’s Serenade”, “The Tsar’s Decree”, “The Duo of the Cashier and the Treasurer”, “A Marching Song” and “A Wedding Song”. These songs were written for the film “Ivan and Maria” (1974), the songs “Skomorokhs at the Fair”, “The Duo of the Cashier and the Treasurer” and “A Wedding Song” were not performed in the film.

In Russian folklore, Nightingale the Robber (also known as “Solovey the Brigand”) is a half-man half-bird creature, having the ability to fly and living in a nest.
