Poems and Songs of Vladimir Vysotsky. In a Faraway Kingdom.

A WEDDING SONG.

VI. Glory to the Soldier!

Yesterday we wished good fortune
To our good old fellow, soldier.
And he’s made us lucky people —
Sent away that sassy whistler!

Now goes Nightingale
In the forest, on his way!
From poor life — to the king’s circle!
Glory, glory to the soldier!

All the best to thee for ever,
Our brave soldier, good old fellow!
Through long years, we’ll pass down
How thou’st kept the Crown!

Now goes Nightingale
In the forest, on his way!
From poor life — to the king’s circle!
Glory, glory to the soldier!
