Masha has a harsh stepmother,
She’s taken her fine gown away.
Masha lacks for chance to smarten up,
And no lad gives her his gaze.

An old sarafan is what she
Has to wear the whole year.
Her stepsister gets what wants she,
Sparkle sapphires in her ears.

Thou stoodest near the entrance,
While a raging storm there was...
How it’s sad that I wasn’t able to
Freeze thy sore tears into pearls!
