Commentary to the song “In a yellow hot land...”

In this song, the parrot symbolizes our enemy, as well as in the song “There on the desert island...” (1968), where

He drew the dwellers round,
And set to teach them ’bout
The most terrible words.

The song was written for the film “My Papa is a Captain” (1969), performed in the play of the Sovremennik Theater “One’s Own Island” (1971) and in the play of the Moscow Literary and Drama Theater of the All-Russian Theatrical Society “There in the Distance” (1976).

The presented text is adapted from Vadim Baranovsky and George Tokarev’s translations.
