Poems and Songs of Vladimir Vysotsky. In a Faraway Kingdom.

The King’s Procession.

We’re tight, bold and brave in our mighty formation,
As balls in the charger, as mates in the box.
Our glorious king is ’mongst us! Salutation
To him and his court as we march through the hordes!

When meeting the king, ye must bow!
To show your ardor and rapture,
It’s better to fall on the ground,
Wet snow or mud — no matter!

It’d be so unthankful to say that it’s painful!
To prostrate yourself isn’t the duty that’s large.
The king is responsible for fortune and failing,
And if not the king, there’s the queen in the charge!

When meeting the king, ye must bow!
To show your ardor and rapture,
It’s better to fall on the ground,
Wet snow or mud — no matter!
